Thanks fly out to Oleg Ovcharenko for finding a way to make the game run on XP, and to DrakoPensulo for developing the GOG Galaxy WinXP patch!ĭue to an update of the Galaxy.dll bundled with Into the Breach on GOG (even when not using the Galaxy launcher), the above fix based on DrakoPensulos’ libraries no longer works, as the newer DLL attempts to call InitializeCriticalSectionEx(). Oleg has also confirmed that this works on 32-bit XP, which I haven’t tested myself. And that’s another cool game now open to users of old XP & XP 圆4 systems. I can’t exactly vouch for the Steam version of the game, but this works at least for the GOG release of the title. Into the Breach running on Windows XP 圆4 (click to enlarge) Since I didn’t have much time (or skill *cough*) for dealing with it, I once again pitched it to Oleg Ovcharenko – our friendly Russian hacker – instead… After bypassing the typical GOG installer error on XP (I’m not using their Galaxy client) when it tries to call EventWrite(), I ran into more serious issues however. Given that their games are DRM-free even on Steam, I wouldn’t have to deal with the advancing extinction of DRM game launchers on XP at least. So I went ahead and for $14.99 USD to see whether it would run on my Windows XP 圆4 system. Since I loved “FTL: Faster than Light” by, I wanted to try their latest game as well: “Into the Breach”. Here’s another one for what few Windows XP / XP 圆4 users are left out there. Deprecated solution (no longer working as of late 2018) For a currently working solution, please scroll down to point 2.!ġ. shall remain only for historical purposes. The first solution provided below at point 1. This is at least true starting with version 1.1.22 of the game. Newer versions may come with a version of GOGs’ Galaxy.dll that can no longer be fixed as described here. Update : The first solution documented here is deprecated, and is only confirmed to work with Into the Breach up to version 1.0.22.
